Best Dang Movie Ever Made
Maddie has been working on her fairy tale
unit in school for six weeks now – I know I’ve blogged
about this before – and we finished filming it Wednesday and
had the big “movie premiere” yesterday.
And can I say, our kids are darn cute.
Make that freakin’ awesome.
I’m very honest about the fact that
six-year-olds are not really my favorite demographic as a teacher.
My best teaching tools are sarcasm and dry wit, which don’t
work so well on people who take ten minutes to figure out a
knock-knock joke. But I had a great time with the kids and can say,
completely unbiased, that their movie is stellar.
I’d post a link to the movie but I’m not going to try
to get eleven other parents to give their permission to make the
video public. Just trust me when I say that there’s a certain
intelligent princess – Maddie’s friend Elise –
who has a pet duck and grows a magic garden. When they’re
kidnapped by a piranha and a dragon, the kingdom’s thrown in
an uproar and rescue plans are quickly made. In the end, the
goodness inside each person – er, dragon – frees the
princess. And her pet duck. As for Maddie, she was the narrator
– dressed like a newscaster, commenting on every scene,
keeping the pace moving.
The kids wrote the story themselves and were quite creative, and I
know we’ll keep this video for a long time to come.
Maddie, let me just apologize in advance for the fact that your
father will be showing this at your engagement party. Sorry,
baby.
