The Green Team Goes Public(ish)
You may remember that Maddie and a couple
friends put together the kindergarten Green Team on Earth day;
it’s a club dedicated to picking up trash and recycling on
school grounds. Part of their big plan was to talk to the principal
and get the club announced on morning announcements so other kids
would know to recycle.
Yesterday, the Green Team’s dream came true.
Apparently, Maddie’s been walking by
her principal every morning since Earth Day, trying to work up the
nerve to speak to the very nice lady. Yesterday, Maddie told me,
she finally got that courage.
“You see, Mom,” she said excitedly after school,
“I was walking towards the principal and thinking I was just
too shy, and started thinking about how I’d already had two
chances to talk to her and hadn’t done it. And I saw another
student talking to her and thought, ‘Well, there’s no
chance today.’ And then I saw the student walk away and I
thought, ‘Hey! Here’s my chance!’ And then I
thought, ‘No, I’m too shy.’ And then I thought,
‘Wait a minute, I’ve already had two chances, this is
my third, and all I need is ONE chance to make this happen!
I’m just gonna DO it!’ And so I did!”
So Maddie summoned up her courage and told the principal about her
friends’ club, and how they want everyone to recycle. And the
principal was so impressed that she mentioned Maddie and Elise and
Becca’s names on the morning announcements “OUT LOUD,
Mom! She said them where everyone could hear them!” And as if
that weren’t enough, she awarded all three girls a Kindness
Link for being kind to the earth.
My child is in seventh heaven right now.
